This psalm is ultimately not about sheep, green pastures, or even David. It is about the Lord Jesus Himself. Every blessing in Psalm 23 exists to lead us beyond the gifts to the Giver. The greatest comfort of the Christian life is not that our valleys disappear, but that our Shepherd never does.
