In this passage, David leaves Israel and settles in Gath, living in the tension between calling and promise. While waiting, he drifts into compromise, choosing safety over full trust in God. This story speaks to all of us in the in-between seasons, when we know what God has said, but haven’t yet seen it fulfilled. What we do in the waiting matters. The call is clear: stay faithful. Even when it’s slow, uncertain, or uncomfortable, obedience in the in-between is how we walk toward the promise.

In this passage, Saul continues to pursue David with violence, but David responds the same way again: he refuses to take revenge. Instead, he trusts God to be his judge and defender. When offense is repeated, the temptation to retaliate only grows stronger. But God’s Word calls us to a different way: leave vengeance in His hands. The call is simple, but not easy: trust the righteous Judge to be your avenger and your refuge again and again. “Vengeance is mine, I will repay, says the Lord.” – Romans 12:19

In this passage, David is ready to take revenge, but God intervenes through Abigail, stopping him from making a costly mistake. Instead of giving in to anger and pride, David is reminded to trust God’s justice. This message challenges us to confront how we respond when we’re hurt. Do we take matters into our own hands, or do we trust God to make things right? The call is clear: let go of bitterness, surrender the need to defend yourself, and trust God’s timing and justice. In this passage, David has the perfect opportunity to take out Saul, but he refuses. Instead of revenge, he chooses restraint, trusting God’s timing over his own instincts. Following God won’t always make sense. In fact, it can feel completely backwards. But what looks outlandish is often where God’s wisdom is found. This message challenges us to ask: What advice or grudges am I holding onto that go against God’s Word? Even good-sounding voices can lead us off course. Trust God's way, it’s always better. “I will not put out my hand against my lord…” – 1 Samuel 24:10

In this passage, David is betrayed by the Ziphites and nearly captured by Saul, but at the last moment, God intervenes. What looked like the end turns into a rescue. This story reminds us that we don’t have to take matters into our own hands. God sees, God knows, and God defends. When we release our desire for control and revenge, we make room for peace and hope.
