EP. 10 Shammi Kapoor Shows Us How He Was Inspired By His Own Struggles with Autism and ADHD To Open His Own Brain Training Centre and How Brain Training Changed His Life

Today’s guest is Shammi Kapoor, the Founder and Director of Brain Abilities, a brain training centre with locations in the UAE and the UK. Shammi is diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder, ADHD, Depression and could not read properly 8 years ago. Shammi was born in the UK, and grew up as an expat child in Dubai where he struggled as he could not participate and be a functioning member of society whether it was in a community, at school or at home. When he was 19 years old, one of his clinical psychologists referred him to a BrainRx center in Dubai where his life changed. After two brain training programs, Shammi was able to overcome many of his daily challenges and was able to participate a lot more at home and with his peers. Shammi went on to becoming Dubai and UAE’s Student Entrepreneur Champion at the Global Student Entrepreneur Awards in 2018. In this episode, we discuss what inspired him to start his own Brain Training centre, the difficulties he faced growing up with learning disabilities and his thoughts on the schooling system. Shammi actually takes me through a brain training activity (video coming soon) that opened my eyes to some of my own cognitive weaknesses. An eye-opening episode that reminds us that there is no one size fits all when it comes to learning and the stigma around learning disabilities and disabilities in general must be eradicated for us to all flourish equally. I hope you enjoy today’s episode with Shammi and consider brain training for yourself! Please leave us a review on Apple Podcasts if you loved this episode! EP. 9 Katie Diasti Shows Us How Her Sustainable Period Care Company Viv Was Born, Tips To Live A More Sustainable Lifestyle And Being An Entrepreneur In The Period Care Space

Welcome to Episode 9 of the Shaw Me Your Way Podcast, today’s guest is Katie Diasti, the CEO and Founder of Viv for your v, an earth-friendly period care brand. Katie studied Marketing and Managing Social Impact at Boston College and started VIV in her senior year to pursue her dream of building a mission-driven social impact brand and I believe that she is doing a great job of spreading awareness and championing sustainability. There are some pretty shocking statistics about the amount of plastic in period care products and the toxic ingredients that are in mainstream period care products. Katie breaks it all down for us and has implemented ingredient transparency in her own brand. Viv products are made from plastic-free, toxin-free, and sustainable bamboo fibers. By using a more sustainable crop of bamboo, Viv saves a lot of water, land and CO2 emissions. Not to mention that bamboo is a naturally hypo-allergenic material, naturally more absorbent and way more comfortable! We talk about how Katie came up with her company name, her mentors, the sustainable space, pink tax and how best to educate people into being their best sustainable selves (without bashing)! EP. 8 Celine Azem Shows Us Why She Started @FitWithCeline, How She Merges Activism & Fitness On Her Page And Staying True To Herself

Trigger Warning: This episode briefly discusses topics such as body image and eating disorders. Today’s guest is Celine Azem, she started her Instagram page @FitWithCeline during quarantine and has dedicated a lot of her time and effort towards creating amazing fitness content on her page as well as consistent weekly scheduled Live workouts that were… challenging to say the least! Celine’s mission with her page is to empower women and cut through all the BS advice in the fitness world online. Celine got her bachelor's degree in Art Curation from the prestigious Central Saint Martins in London, however found herself drifting away from a profession in Art as she realized her passion for fitness. We discuss the pressure to stick to what you’ve studied and Celine is now embarking on her personal training and nutrition certifications. I ask Celine how she drowns out the noise in the social media fitness sphere and how she stays committed to spreading accurate information and *HEALTHY* advice when it comes to fitness. We discuss the links between mental and physical health and the importance of cultivating a healthy relationship with our bodies and with food. Celine has also merged her fitness and activism together hosting live workouts dedicated to the Black Lives Matter movement and the humanitarian crisis in Yemen, she asks her followers to donate if they are to join her workouts - and I love this. Celine will be hosting a live workout where she kicks my butt over on her page on Sunday for a good cause! More details on both of our social channels which you can find below. EP. 7 Andrea Brocca Shows Us How He Crafted His CSM Graduate Collection "SENANAYAKE" Under Lockdown In Dubai, His Future Plans & His Inspirations

Today’s guest is an incredible talent and one of my oldest childhood friends, Andrea Brocca. At age 14, Andrea interned for Alice Temperley and produced the Andrea dress, YES AT 14! And by 16 years old, he was hailed youngest haute couture designer in the world by the Guiness World Book of records, succeeding Yves Saint Laurent! He had his own boutique at 16 in Dubai’s Wafi Mall and left it all behind to master his craft by going on to study at La Chambre Syndicale de la Couture Parisienne followed by a degree in Fashion Design and Marketing at London’s prestigious Central Saint Martins. In between he’s worked for Prabal Gurung in New York, Ellery in Paris, and most recently Bottega Veneta in Milan. Around 2 weeks ago, he debuted his central saint martins graduate collection “SENANAYAKE” on the first-ever Virtual London Fashion Week, he’s been in the press multiple times since, most notably in Vogue Arabia, Grazia UK, and Lampoon Mag. We discuss how he managed to create such a masterpiece under lockdown restrictions in Dubai, after he left London when quarantine was coming into effect so that he could be with his family. I ask Andrea if he thinks that traditional Fashion Week’s will become a thing of the past, who his inspirations are, what he learned from his work experiences, and his opinion on fast fashion. An incredible thing happened during the recording of this episode, when notorious Fashion Journalist and advocate for emerging talent Sarah Mower reposted Andrea’s collection to her Instagram, Andrea’s reaction says it all, pure happiness and I am so happy I could be a part of that, it goes to show Andrea’s passion for his craft and his genuine nature and excitement for his success. He deserves it. I’ll be leaving the links to his Instagram and all of the press pieces on his collection - Please share his work if you can! EP. 6 Helena Smolak Shows Us How She Got Her Job At The United Nations WFP, How The World Food Programme Is Responding To COVID-19 And Believing In Yourself

Welcome to the sixth episode of the Shaw Me Your Way Podcast! DISCLAIMER: Please bear with some of the sound distortions that occurs when remotely recording a podcast. Today’s guest is Helena Smolak, who works in Operational Information Management and Reporting at the United Nations World Food Programme in Rome. We discuss how she came to the realisation that she wanted to pursue international diplomacy as a career, the whole application process for her UN job and never giving up during the sometimes (most times) *dreaded* job hunt. Helena is extremely candid about feeling the pressure to perform during her MSc at LSE and dealing with imposter syndrome (who else can relate?). Helena really breaks it down in terms of what it is like to work at the UN and busts some myths you may have thought were true about the working environment of organisations like the UN. This is a great episode especially for those who are on the job hunt right now or for those looking to work at large organisations like the United Nations or have an interest in International Diplomacy and Development. I hope you enjoy this episode and please leave us a comment on Instagram telling me what you thought or if you could relate with having imposter syndrome.
