The Need for Thumos

“So take heart, men, for I have faith in God that it will be exactly as I have been told.” – Paul I have an obsession with courage. This is probably because I often lack it and would like to have more. It is also because over the last six years, the primary virtue that Christians have needed is courage. We live under what often feels like, in Rod Dreher’s words, “soft totalitarianism.” We are told what to think, what to say, and if we step out of line there will be awkward silence or hostile pushback. Make the Ask: Tyler, Zach & Andy

In 2025, as a church, we have a goal. That goal is simple: Make the Ask. We have the most amazing gift people could ever receive - salvation and life and peace and joy in Christ. Why not invite disconnected people into the life of Jesus and of NAPC? But remember, as you ask, that converting is not up to us, it is up to God. Weekly Communion

Big news for our worship services: as of September 7th, we are changing our frequency of communion to weekly. This change will add depth and richness to services, and it will bring us into a more faithful expression of Christian worship, one that connects with the Reformation heritage we claim. Today, the church that is best-known for celebrating weekly communion is the Roman Catholic Church. Yet, this was not the case until after the Protestant Reformation, which, although rejected by Rome, still influenced Rome dramatically. One of the protests of the medieval church by Protestants was that communion was typically offered to laity only once per year at Easter, it was not understood (since the service was in Latin), and the only element offered was the wafer. This led to Reformation churches advocating the celebration of the Lord’s Supper on a weekly basis.
