A Parade of Horribles Ch. 16-35
Bookclub dives into the second chunk of the eight Dungeon Crawler Carl book, A Parade of Horribles, by Matt Dinniman. While we are not enthused by the most direct plot line of the races themselves, there are quite a few between the lines pieces that piqued our interest, including the introduction of Baby Uzi Jesus, all things Eris and coloring outside the lines, are both floors in one book, overall gods going haywire and the AI asking for help, and getting nervous about the fate of a pig. Spoilers for all of DCC through the end of 35 in book 8, plus a reference to Midnight Sun (Twilight).
A Parade of Horribles Ch. 1 - 15
Book club discusses the start to the eighth Dungeon Crawler Carl book, A Parade of Horribles, by Matt Dinniman. Overall thoughts to the start of a new floor kicks us off with expansion into wondering why Carl is for once not taking a pile of junk into his inventory, visualizing a 50/50 chopped manotaur, rooting for Li Na even as she murders everyone, and some theorizing into who will eventually take a deal at what floor. Spoilers for all of DCC through the end of chapter 15 in book 8.
This Inevitable Ruin Ch. 59 - End
Bookclub discusses the final third of the seventh Dungeon Crawler Carl book, This Inevitable Ruin, by Matt Dinniman. There's a lot to cover in this double duty reading segment, including how souls are treated in this universe (is it similar to West World?), we finally have our baby Mongos and yes they are legendary, two different but similar discussions on who is the true NVP for this floor (Li Na or Louise - bookclub disagrees on this one!), and Quasar just trying to be helpful. We had some recording audio quality issues with this one, apologies up front here. Spoilers for all of DCC through the end of book 7, as well as some of West World.
DCC This Inevitable Ruin Ch. 38-58
The full book club is back to discuss chapters 38 - 58 on the sixth Dungeon Crawler Carl, This Inevitable Ruin, and there are a lot of predictions to be had about the fate of our favorite crawlers. Topics of conversation include: does the AI know about the cookbook or is there a hacker on the outside? how far do the changeling's abilities extend? how much is the AI cheating? who let the gods out? Li Na has gained new appreciation from book club, and the Katia situation looms over the discussion. "Chekhov's Yam" Spoilers for this book and all previous Dungeon Crawler Carl books.
This Inevitable Ruin: Ch 18 - 37
Book club discusses chapters 18 - 37 of the seventh Dungeon Crawler Carl book, This Inevitable Ruin by Matt Dinniman. We only have two members in attendance today and both happen to not enjoy reading about war planning and strategy discussions, so there may be some disappointment shared regarding this reading segment. However - there is redemption within the last 3 or so chapters when all hell breaks loose and we get the AI back as a physical being. We question if there is love the AI feels disguised as obsession; why the AI plays a high-stakes game of blowing up the world as a mind game with Carl; will the AI expansion be truly endless; and the desire to see the AI screw over the entire universe's political system - even if it ends up destroying everything. Oh - and we do mess up quite spectacularly in our understanding for the difference between the orc and the snake alien faction teams... Very minor spoiler for the second Hunger Games book. Full spoilers for DCC though the end of Chapter 37 in This Inevitable Ruin.
