Surf Report - Ocean City MD Beaches
Good morning, this is your Tuesday surf zone forecast for the Virginia and North Carolina coast. We're looking at moderate rip current conditions affecting all our beaches today, so swimmers and waders need to exercise caution and be aware of these potentially dangerous currents. Let's start up north at the Maryland beaches. Ocean City and Assateague are seeing two to three foot waves this morning under partly sunny skies. Water temperatures are in the mid-60s, so a wetsuit might still feel pretty good. Winds are light out of the south at five to ten miles per hour. The UV index is very high today, so don't forget your sunscreen. High temperatures should reach the lower 70s. At Ocean City Fishing Pier, expect low tide around 8:50 in the morning with high tide arriving at 3:10 in the afternoon. Moving down to the Eastern Shore, Chincoteague and the barrier islands between Cape Charles and Parramore are expecting slightly larger surf at two to four feet today. Conditions remain partly sunny with southeast winds at five to ten miles per hour. Water temps are still in the mid-60s. Highs today will be in the lower 70s. The moderate rip current risk remains in effect all day, so keep an eye on the water. Low tide at Wachapreague is at 9:35 in the morning with high tide at 3:59 in the afternoon. Virginia Beach and Sandbridge are also in the moderate rip current zone with two to four foot surf and partly sunny conditions. Light east winds at five to ten miles per hour will keep conditions relatively calm. Temperatures today will push toward the mid-70s. Watch for the low tide at Virginia Beach around 8:46 in the morning and high tide at 3:11 in the afternoon. Up at the Outer Banks in Currituck County, conditions look similar with two to four foot waves and partly sunny skies. East winds around ten miles per hour. Highs in the mid-70s. Again, moderate rip currents are possible in the surf zone today. Looking ahead to Wednesday, all areas will see surf drop slightly to two to four feet, though some areas will see three to four feet. Expect mostly cloudy skies until afternoon, then partial clearing. Temperatures warm into the upper 70s and mid-80s. A chance of showers moves in, and winds increase to around 15 to 20 miles per hour out of the south. The moderate rip current risk continues. Thursday brings improving conditions. Mostly sunny skies with surf dropping to two to three feet across the board. Highs climb into the lower 80s at the northern beaches and reach near 90 at Virginia Beach. Southwest winds stay light around ten miles per hour. Only a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms. Friday looks excellent. Mostly sunny with just a slight chance of storms. Surf flattens to around two feet. Highs remain in the lower to upper 80s depending on your location. Southwest winds stay calm around five to ten miles per hour. Saturday wraps up the weekend nicely with mostly sunny skies and light winds. A slight chance of showers and thunderstorms returns, but nothing significant. Surf stays at two feet or less. Highs will be in the upper 70s to mid-80s depending on your beach. Remember, the moderate rip current risk is in effect from 8 this morning through this evening. If you find yourself caught in a rip current, stay calm, don't panic, and swim parallel to the shore to escape it. Have a great day at the beach.
