The Chronic Illness Unfiltered Podcast
In today's episode we welcome our first guest to the podcast, my younger sister Sophie. Sophie's journey started at around age one when it was noticed that something didn't seem right when she began walking. She went on to be diagnosed with Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis (JIA). When she was 7 years old it was picked up in scans that some bones in her ankles were 'disintegrating' and after years of investigation and misdiagnosis's she was eventually diagnosed with Avascular Necrosis (AVN) and later Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS). Sophie shares with us her experiences with treating and managing these conditions, being a Telethon child in 2012. Along with a lengthy hospital admission during her final year of high school and the impacts these have on her mental health and daily life. Trigger Warning: This episode discusses medical trauma, gaslighting, discussions of mental health, suicide, fertility and grief.
