The Daily Rebel Devotional with Derek Griffon
Today is Independence Day, and across America we'll celebrate freedom with flags, fireworks, and cookouts. But Daniel 1 reminds us there's another kind of freedom that's even more important—spiritual freedom. Because you can live in a free country and still be enslaved by lust, approval, fear, anger, or compromise. The greatest threat to a man isn't losing political freedom. It's losing spiritual conviction. And once conviction disappears, compromise isn't far behind. Daniel was just a teenager when Babylon tried to reshape his life. They changed his name, immersed him in a new worldview, isolated him from godly influence, and pressured him to conform. Babylon wasn't simply trying to change where Daniel lived—it was trying to change who Daniel was. The strategy hasn't changed. Culture is still trying to redefine identity, replace truth, and remove godly influence. But before Daniel ever sat at the king's table, he had already settled the issue in his heart. He resolved. In this episode, we unpack three gritty truths about biblical resolve: 1. Resolve Your Convictions Before Culture Challenges Them — Don't wait until temptation arrives to decide who you're going to be. Conviction is settled before pressure ever comes. 2. Small Compromises Create Big Captivities — The enemy rarely asks for everything at once. He starts with one small compromise because little compromises eventually shape lifelong allegiances. 3. Your Identity Must Be Stronger Than Your Environment — Daniel lived in Babylon, but Babylon never lived in Daniel. You can live in culture without letting culture live in you. Ultimately, Daniel points us to Jesus—the perfectly faithful Son who never compromised. Where we have failed, Christ remained obedient. And through His grace, He doesn't just forgive compromising men; He creates men of conviction. How Men Build Resolve: * Decide before you're tested. Don't negotiate with temptation. * Stay rooted in God's Word. Convictions grow where Scripture is planted. * Surround yourself with resolved men. Compromise is contagious. So is courage. * Practice obedience in small things. Big faithfulness begins with little faithfulness. Because the men who change culture... are usually the men culture could never change.
