The Future of Healthcare. Innovations in Medtech, Oncology and Academic Medicine
In this episode, we explore the landscape of medical technology (Medtech) from a Dutch perspective. We discuss what Medtech encompasses and the scale of the European market, as well as key challenges such as supply chain resilience and the impact of stricter European regulations under MDR and IVDR. We also examine major innovation drivers including digital health and artificial intelligence, from imaging AI and Software as a Medical Device to smarter hospital operations. In addition, we highlight the areas of clinical excellence within Dutch University Medical Centers — such as ultra-high field MRI, radiomics, organ perfusion, and computational pathology. Finally, we look ahead to the ambitions outlined in the Dutch Medtech Growth Plan, and what it will take for the Netherlands to become one of the world’s leading Medtech ecosystems by 2035.
