As they recover from their harrowing ordeal, young Wulf and his companion Beorn contemplate daring plans to send word of their captivity to the Duke of Normandy, while reflecting on the harsh realities of chivalry and power in these troubled times.

Wulf the Saxon Chapter III - At Court

In which Wulf receives Earl Harold’s gracious letter clearing his name and spends a year strengthening himself and managing his estate at Steyning, gaining both skill in arms and the esteem of his neighbours. He is then summoned back to court, where he is warmly welcomed by the king and earl, and soon embarks on a lively hunting expedition along the southern coast with his friend Beorn and other gentlemen of status.
