Something that's really near and dear to our hearts here at the Gillyweed Pod is the health of our oceans! So, with the recent OHI report for the year being published this week, in today's episode we touch on the subject of ocean health! We also take a dive into what a Patronus is, and what we feel like our Patronuses each are and why. It's an awesome piece of lore involving a man and a woman, and of course a kidnapping by the Queen of Faeries. However, the hero might not be the one you expect.... listen to hear more! #4: Terrifying Takes on Mermaids

HAPPY ALMOST HALLOWEEEEN! For our Halloween special, we wanted to cover the scary side of our favorite ocean lore creature... mermaids. For most of us, the first thing that comes to mind when we think about mermaids is a beautiful half fish half woman, with long flowing hair. But, looking back through lore stories from across the globe, there are so many accounts and local legends of mer-like creatures that were so much more terrifying than the idea of mermaids we have in our heads. We've all heard of sirens luring men to their death with a beautiful song, but what about a terrifying screaming aquatic woman with glowing red eyes? Or amphibious 5 foot creatures with pink skin and a carp-like mouth full of tiny sharp teeth? Tune in to this episode to hear more about these terrifying takes on mermaids.
