In which Thumbkin discovers that his friends donʼt like to get wet. So while Hamilton, Morrison, and Rutabug sit on a potato boat, everyone else goes swimming until Petipom looses his hat. In which, after Hamilton gets a canning lesson from Rutabug and Thumbkin, Petipom discovers a giant zucchini. Then, rolling it down to the creek, they discover it floats, which Rutabug has the bright idea of transforming it into a ship they appropriately call, The Black Beauty.

In which Hamilton leads everyone on a small adventure outside the garden to his old home, a great oak tree. Upon returning, Hamilton realizes that a house is not a home, but the people are.
