Description

Welcome to Episode 1 of The Isle of Man Vicar Podcast. In this first episode I walk into South Barrule Plantation on the Isle of Man to see the impact of recent storms and the forestry harvesting that followed. From the road it may look like devastation, but as a plantation, much of this woodland was due for felling and renewal. With much of the site still cordoned off, this is a shorter, reflective stroll — noticing the storm’s aftermath, the signs of change, and the reminder that new growth follows loss. Thank you for joining me on this journey. (Prefer video? Search “Isle of Man Vicar – South Barrule Plantation” on YouTube.)

Walking Dhoon Glen: Waterfall, Ruins & Brew by the Sea

Join me on a walk through Dhoon Glen, one of the Isle of Man’s most dramatic landscapes. Starting at the Manx Electric Railway halt, I take the steep route marked for “more experienced walkers.” Along the way I clamber past fallen trees, cross wooden bridges, and discover the ruins of old stone buildings hidden in the forest. The path eventually leads me to the spectacular Inneen Vooar waterfall (Big Girl in Manx Gaelic) before winding down to the coast at Dhoon Bay, where I pause for a well-earned coffee by the sea. In this episode I share the sounds of the glen — rushing water, birdsong, and footsteps through the forest — as well as reflections on walking, faith, and celebrating the milestone of 500 subscribers on YouTube. Whether you’re a walker, nature lover, or simply want to immerse yourself in the peace of the Isle of Man, this episode is a chance to slow down and journey with me.
