episode #1 Movement control orders, drone spies & binge baking in Kuala Lumpur cover

Description

My guest today is Mikaela Koelma, Mika for short. Mika is an Australian expat living and working in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. She and her husband Chris are both international school teachers and have lived abroad for the last 9 years. Mika is a bright and sunshine-y breath of fresh air, and from listening to her energy and laugh you wouldn’t know she’s been in a strict government-enforced lockdown for 4 weeks and counting, unable to leave the house for any reason, unless it’s to buy groceries or seek medical care (even exercising outside is banned). Mika also happens to be my sister-in-law and a great friend too, so I hope you enjoy this insight into what life is like during Covid-19 isolation in Kuala Lumpur. #3 Stranded on an Antarctic expedition when the world shut down, with Kylie Rassatt

Kylie Rassatt is a software engineer turned full time traveller from Seattle, in the USA. In early 2019 she and her husband Scott quit their jobs, put their home on Airbnb and sold most of their possessions to travel the world and work as digital nomads and run the travel website lovehardtraveloften.com. Together they’ve travelled to more than 40 countries, but (like many) their travel plans were interrupted dramatically when Covid-19 struck. Kylie and Scott were literally at the end of the world when borders started closing in mid-March 2020. They were on an Antarctic expedition when their ship was turned around and all passengers were confined onboard in a compulsory quarantine off the coast of Argentina. The story of what happened next in their race to get home to the USA safely is absolutely fascinating. Kylie and Scott are bloggers and Instagrammers, and you can check them out at @lovehardtraveloften.
