Dr. Michelle Boland grew up in central Massachusetts where her interest for athletics and playing sports began. She played soccer, basketball, and ran track at the collegiate level while studying Nutrition. After reflecting on her life's passion for athletics and sports performance training, she decided to pursue a higher education degree in strength and conditioning (M.S.) and exercise physiology (PhD) at Springfield College (MA). Dr. Boland has several years of professional experience as a strength and conditioning coach at a Division 1 institution working with a nationally ranked top 5 Women’s Ice Hockey team, a nationally ranked top 10 Men’s Ice Hockey team, and other teams including Field Hockey, Women’s Soccer, and Men’s Basketball. This episode's guest Micah Kurtz is the Assistant Athletics Director & Director of Sports Performance at Windermere Preparatory School. In addition, he consults on projects regarding youth athletic development education for the NFL, USA Basketball, USA Football and Nike Football. Previously, he was the Director of Strength and Conditioning at AC Flora high school (Forest Acres, South Carolina). During his time there, AC Flora won 14 state championships and was twice named the state’s athletic program of the year. Coach Kurtz also serves as the Strength and Conditioning Consultant Coach to the 9 time high school basketball national champions and winner of the 2016 Dick’s National Tournament Oak Hill Academy. During his time there he has worked with NBA players Cole Anthony, Quinn Cook, Keldon Johnson and Cody and Caleb Martin. Kurtz has been named a state strength coach of the year three times and was named the NHSSCA Southeast Strength Coach of the Year in 2021, a Top 40 under 40 Sports Professional by Coach & AD Magazine in 2018 and the NSCA National Strength Coach of the Year in 2016.
