The Time Machine

In the year 1895, a young scientist constructs a machine that can transport him through time. Though few believe his discovery, a friend and colleague later finds him radically changed after a brief absence. The scientist explains that he has visited a grim future, and proceeds to tell his friend everything that he saw.
