Description

This series of 3 podcast starts with Reggie Williams, Colorado based Master Trainer and franchise owner, and Kim Sims-Battiste, Oakland, Ca. based group fitness program director and Culture Shock Dance Troop-Oakland Director. Both of these dynamic pros have over 15 years experience in the fitness industry but have very different experiences and paths to success. I   worked with them both directly and for the same companies so my respect and appreciation for their skills and talents comes from personal experience. We discuss their careers, challenges, observations, and share ideas on how to inspire more young black men and women to enter this unique, "inclusive" industry. We also touch on the health and fitness opportunities for black communities overall. This is also a topic that has so much opportunity for improvement as it relates to "access" to gyms and quality training for the underserved. I  cannot wait for you to listen to these 3 discussions. We will learn together and gain insights and perspectives into the Voices of these talented Fitness Pros. Watch this on our YouTube Channel:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wudyPbUj4qE

The Voices of the Black Community in the Fitness Industry

I am so fortunate to be able to host and deliver this series of podcasts called "The Voices of the Black Community in the Fitness Industry." My relationships run deep and wide in the black fitness community and I want to listen, learn, and broaden my view on how I, personally, can do better for this great industry. I sincerely believe the fitness industry is and can be a Model for other industries looking to improve their status as an Equal Opportunity Employer. What I don't know clearly is how we can improve the health, fitness, and wellness of the black communities and/or any lower socio-economic sector. What I do know is that these three talented guests have some inspiration and ideas for us all to consider as we open our hearts and minds to be better humans. -Brendan Ayanbadejo Super Bowl Champion Multi-Unit Fitness Franchise Owner Elite Trainer Relentless Advocate for Equality and Fairness for All including the LBGT community. -Kia Williams Master Trainer Advocate for Trainer Education Elite Industry Educator Corporate Content Creator, VASA Fitness -Reggie Williams Fitness Franchise Owner Master Trainer and Educator Fitness Industry Entrepreneur Your Host-Chan Gannaway International Educator and Master Trainer Former Orangetheory Fitness Fitness and Education Director 23 Year Industry Veteran Designer and Fitness Director, GRIT BXNG (NYC) Advocate for Fairness and Integrity of the Fitness Industry

The Voices of the Black Community in the Fitness Industry - Episode 2 of 4

With guest Reggie Williams, Master Trainer and Fitness Franchise owner In Episode 1, we mainly discussed their personal experiences and observations being black in the fitness industry. We discuss how they started their careers and how they have succeeded with a long career as a black fitness professional. We also touched on ways to improve participation in the black communities with not only careers but community health and fitness. For Episode 2, Reggie and I dive into possible solutions and share ideas on how to communicate and inspire young blacks to pursue fitness careers. We discuss schools and community fitness leaders as having potentially a significant impact on black communities awareness of fitness initiatives. The big takeaway for us both was WHO or WHAT organization can take this project on and impact the overall fitness landscape in black communities.
