In this episode, I’m talking about my firsthand experience trying bungee aerobics at OM Factory NYC and why the reality did not match the cute videos online. I went in excited, open-minded, and ready to try something new. I arrived 15 minutes early because that is what they required. For about 10 minutes after class started, I was the only participant there, which means there was more than enough time to properly check the harness, adjust the bungee, explain the setup, and make sure the equipment fit my actual body. That did not happen. As someone who is about 5’7” and around 180 pounds, I do not consider myself the so-called “standard” yoga size, and in a class where your body is literally being supported by equipment attached to the ceiling, height and weight should matter. The equipment should be adjusted before class begins, not after someone is already struggling. During one of the movements, we did a dead drop to the floor, and I actually hit the floor because the harness and bungee setup were not adjusted correctly for my height, weight, or body. That moment shifted the entire experience from “this is awkward” to “this is a safety concern.” I’m sharing this not because I regret trying something new — because I don’t. I’m proud of myself for showing up and doing it. But I do believe people deserve honest reviews before spending their money, especially on fitness experiences that involve equipment, body weight, movement, and safety. In this episode, I talk about the class, the customer service, the lack of proper setup, the small space, the beginner experience, and why I would not recommend this studio based on what happened to me. Cute videos are one thing. A safe, welcoming, well-run experience is another.
