In this podcast Amy & Emma from The Selkie Collective chat with Emily Johns from Skye Beach Cleans [https://skyebeachcleans.co.uk].  We talk about what it's like to live on an island and feel directly affected by the ocean plastic issue.  Emily provides support and can offer help when it comes to trying to set up beach cleans, and all the data that they collect is being used to make a real difference by informing companies that are producing the plastic and showing them directly what is turning up on our shorelines.  It's an inspiring and hopeful chat.

The Importance of Community

In this episode we talk with radio presenter for Radio Skye, Suzy Lee.  Suzy plays a very active role in her community here on the Isle of Skye, and is passionate about supporting others and highlighting what's going on in Skye & Lochalsh.  We find out where this passion came from, Suzy's life journey to this point and how serendipity played a part in her becoming a radio presenter.   We also talk about the importance of community, how she juggles life with a family and how she finds the boundaries between work and life when working with her husband.  This is a chat that we think everyone will relate to and helps to highlight that life can feel overwhelming if we try to take on global issues, however, if we make small steps within our community the ripples can be greater than we might expect.

In this episode we talk with Dana MacPherson who is a Somatic Dance practitioner in Skye & Lochalsh.  We delve into what Somatic Dance is and what it relates to in the wider context of life and how it can help in so many aspects.  Somatic dance has the ability to unlock more natural movement in our bodies, but also in our minds. Somatic dance has the ability to enable us to connect in another way to our environment, to ourselves and to others.  This is a fascinating conversation and one that we could really relate to as it follows so much of what we believe in here at The Selkie Collective. Even if you have no interest in dance this is a chat that is worth listening to.

In this episode we chat with Ellis O'Connor who is a Scottish Contemporary Landscape Artist. Ellis has taken many a adventure in some amazing and harsh landscapes and we talk about how that can enhance our connection and experience with nature.  This is a wonderful conversation about these nature connections and how those connections can support protecting our planet. Connection Between Mental & Physical Pain

For our first episode in our second season we chatted with Skye & Lochalsh local Kate Hathway.  Kate is a Manual Therapist and believes in treating the body holistically.  We delved into how our mental and physical health connect and impact each other.   This is a fascinating conversation that we could have talked about for hours!   Kate beautifully articulates how important it is to focus on our mental health alongside addressing our physical pain or injuries.
