Send us Fan Mail [https://www.buzzsprout.com/2255152/fan_mail/new] What if the very thing that's making you feel safe is also the thing keeping you stuck? In this episode of the pod, I sit down with Dr. Stacy Jagger, aka “Dr. Sassy”, LMFT, creator of “The Mountain Method” and author of “The 30 Day Blackout”, to explore one of the biggest struggles we all share: our need for control. Whether it shows up as perfectionism, overthinking, people-pleasing, anxiety, or simply trying to make sure everything goes according to plan, Dr. Stacy has learned through her practice and her life that control is no respecter of persons, it affects every one of us. And while those controlling tendencies can help us become highly successful in our careers, they often leave us disconnected in the places that matter most: our homes, our relationships, and even within ourselves. Dr. Sassy openly shares her own path with early family chaos and trauma as a young adult. As a trauma therapist in the Nashville area, the Covenant School tragedy became another turning point in her own life, cracking her wide open and leading her into another profound personal healing experience she wasn’t aware she still needed to attend. She explains why so much of what drives our thoughts, emotions, and behaviors lives beneath the surface in our subconscious, and how understanding that can completely change the way we relate to ourselves and the people we love. Together, we unpack the illusion of control and the daily practice of choosing something far more difficult: trust. Dr. Stacy notes that learning to become present instead of predictive is invaluable for each of us and why so much of our suffering happens between our ears. Doing this work and accepting our lives as they are doesn’t mean we are failing or giving up, it means finally finding peace. Maybe freedom isn't found in controlling life. Maybe it's found in waking up each morning, taking a deep breath, and choosing, one day at a time, to trust, surrender, and let life unfold.
