Adonai: From Lord to “My Lord” Lesson 3 on the names of God focuses on Adonai, drawing from Exodus 33:19. And he said, “I will make all my goodness pass before you and will proclaim before you my name ‘The Lord.’... Contrasting earlier names Elohim and El Elyon. Adon (lord/master) describes authority, hierarchy, ownership, decision-making, and accountability, confronting a “vending machine” view of God and stressing that true salvation shows fruit and surrender, not mere attendance or a prayer. Adonai adds the Hebrew suffix conveying personal, covenant relationship—“my/our Lord”—which requires human choice, not coercion. Using Genesis 15, Pastor Ryan explains Abraham calling God Adonai and the “walking the pieces” covenant, portraying God and His Son bearing the covenant on Abraham’s behalf.
