But the very best coaches aren't evaluating what parents think they're evaluating. And that's where the misunderstanding begins. Most parents watch one thing. Their own child. Coaches? We're watching everything else.

When Parents Want It More Than Their Kids

Today's episode might be the hardest one I've ever recorded. Not because it's controversial. Because it's personal. I've been around hockey for over 60 years. I've played it. I've coached it. I've lived it. I've spent nearly 40 years running hockey conditioning camps, and I've watched thousands of young players chase the dream. I've seen kids make Junior. I've seen kids earn college opportunities. I've seen kids play professionally. But I've also watched something else happen... Something heartbreaking.
