Session 6: Shaping Social Norms for Road Safety in the Cannabis Culture

Shannon Bunkowsky, Director of Loss Prevention at Manitoba Public Insurance is the leader of this session. “I drive high, but I would never drive impaired.” This single statement by one focus group youth provides clear insight into the distortions and myths that permeate thinking about cannabis use and driving in Manitoba. Similar sentiments and views are common and represent the potential risk to all Manitobans in the current environment. How do we keep Manitobans safe on the road when the science of cannabis-impaired driving is still developing and public discourse has been delayed? This presentation will discuss the challenges that Manitoba Public Insurance and other stakeholders must overcome and approaches to illuminate drug-impaired driving risk and keep Manitobans safe.
