Why Following God Feels Hard: The Truth About Obedience and God's Direction

Have you ever prayed for God to show you what to do next, only to hesitate when He answered? You're not alone. Many Christian women over 50 sincerely desire to follow God's will yet struggle to take the next step when obedience feels uncertain, uncomfortable, or even frightening. In this episode we'll explore why following God can feel difficult, how fear and delayed obedience can keep us spiritually stuck, and why Jesus invites us to exchange our heavy burdens for His peace. We'll compare Matthew 7:14 and Matthew 11:28–30 to discover how the narrow road of obedience and the easy yoke of Christ work together. You'll learn that God's direction isn't meant to burden you—it is meant to lead you into greater freedom, purpose, and peace. If you've been asking God for clarity about your next season but feel afraid to move forward, this episode will encourage you to trust His voice and take your next faithful step. In This Episode You'll Learn * Why the narrow road leads to life and lasting peace. * The difference between obedience and trying to earn God's approval. * How fear, doubt, and delay can become subtle forms of resistance. * Why Jesus' yoke is easy even when obedience feels difficult. * Practical ways to move from spiritual hesitation to faithful action. * How trusting God's direction brings peace in every season of life. Key Scriptures * Matthew 7:14 * Matthew 11:28–30 * Proverbs 3:5–6 * John 14:15 * Luke 9:23 * James 1:22 * Philippians 2:13 * Isaiah 48:17–18 Reflection Questions * Has God already shown me my next step? * What fear is keeping me from obeying? * Am I waiting for another sign when God has already spoken? * What burden am I carrying that Jesus is asking me to surrender? * What one act of obedience can I take this week? This Week's Challenge Spend time in prayer and ask God: "Lord, have You already shown me what You want me to do?" If He brings something to mind, take one practical step of obedience this week. Don't wait until you feel completely ready. Trust that God often reveals the next step after we faithfully take the one already in front of us. episode Pick Up the Towel: Serving Others While You're Still Healing from Grief-John 13 for Christian Women Over 50 artwork

Pick Up the Towel: Serving Others While You're Still Healing from Grief-John 13 for Christian Women Over 50

Have you been telling yourself: Once I get through this grief. Once I figure out my finances. Once I know who I am again — then I'll be ready to help someone else? In this episode we go to one of the most powerful and unexpected passages in all of scripture for women in transition: John 13:1–5. The night before the crucifixion. The night Judas was about to betray Him and Peter was about to deny Him. The worst night of Jesus' life. And what did He do? He got up, took off His outer garment, wrapped a towel around His waist, and washed His disciples' feet. All of them. Including Judas. This episode is a direct confrontation of the lie that says you have nothing to give right now. It is also one of the most freeing truths in scripture: You don't have to be whole to serve. You have to know whose you are. We walk through three movements in the passage — the moment Jesus knew who He was, the moment He laid aside His outer garment, and the moment He washed every pair of feet in that room. And we apply each one directly to the woman who is grieving, waiting, confused, or lonely — and wondering if God can still use her. This episode is for you if: •       You want to help other women but feel like you're too broken to give right now •       You've been using your pain as a reason to stay on the sidelines •       You've lost your identity and wonder if your best days of purpose are behind you •       You carry grief, resentment, loneliness, or fear that feels bigger than your calling •       You need permission to pick up the towel — today, exactly as you are My Products: stan.store/thewordwomanpodcast [https://stan.store/thewordwomanpodcast] Contact information: thewordwomanpodcast@gmail.com
