Everyone heard "grand jury" and filled in the rest themselves. Charges must be coming. Someone is about to be arrested. The system is finally moving. Except the Jackson County DA clarified the same day: referring a case to a grand jury is the default pathway when a death in the county cannot be readily explained. The referral itself does not mean law enforcement suspects foul play. This episode cuts through the noise and explains what a Mississippi grand jury actually does. Not the social media interpretation. The real one — where a panel of citizens convened by a circuit court judge reviews evidence in a sealed proceeding and decides whether probable cause exists to bring formal charges. Probable cause is the lowest bar in the system. Clearing it does not produce a guilty verdict.
