Jenny Paananen muistuttaa sanojen voimasta – ihmistä kunnioittava kieli luo hyvinvointia Terveysalan vuorovaikutukseen perehtynyt tutkijatohtori, suomen kielen dosentti Jenny Paananen korostaa kunnioittavaa kielenkäyttöä. Hän muistuttaa sanavalintojen merkityksestä vuorovaikutuksessa. Paananen tähdentää kielen ja hyvinvoinnin välistä suhdetta, sillä kieli luo todellisuutta ja kielenkäyttö voi muuttaa asenteita. Kouluttaessaan hoitohenkilökuntaa hän painottaa asiakaspalveluasennetta ja inhimillisyyttä. Jenny Paananen toteaa, että tutkittu teto johtaa parempaan käytäntöön, vaikka prosessit ovat hitaita. Turun, Helsingin ja Tampereen yliopistoissa työskentelevä tutkijatohtori haluaa pitää esillä vanhoja ihmisiä arvostavaa keskustelua. Hän kritisoi tapaa, jolla päätöksenteossa ihmisiä käsitellään kuluerinä. Paananen on tutkinut hoivakotien henkilökunnan viestintätilanteita ja perehtynyt muistisairaiden ja heidän läheistensä kokemuksiin. Hän sanoo, että kieli vaikuttaa ihmisen hyvinvointiin monin tavoin. Saattohoidossa kuolema ei ole uutinen, vaan yhteisessä tiedossa oleva asia, josta on tärkeä puhua hienotunteisesti ja rauhallisesti. Muistisairaan lähestyvää kuolemaa ei pidä kaunistella, vaan puhua rehellisesti, jotta sairaalle ja läheiselle jää aikaa valmistautua.
