episode (14) Summer Wilson: 3 Mile National Record Holder!! Why is she the way she is, and how can we apply that to the everyday runner? cover

Description

Today we'll look at the story of current Irvine High School senior Summer Wilson. We'll look at her track club upbringing with Equalizers and look at her relationships with younger athletes on the team as a role model. Then, we’ll look at her early career with Junipero Serra before diving into her own career at Irvine with Coach Hurst. We'll talk about that as well. Then we'll just go into her exploits in cross country and track, including setting a few state and even a NATIONAL record and more trips to more national meets. Throughout we’ll stop and keep pondering the question: What makes Summer the way she is and how can we apply that knowledge to the everyday runner?

Ellery Lincoln's Authentic Journey to the U20 World Team

This is Ellery Lincoln. She just qualified for the 2026 U20 World Team and earlier this season ran a 4:27 mile at the Festival of Miles. And she’s a junior in high school from app. Named Lincoln HS in Portland Oregon. However, her success doesn’t tell the whole story as she’s had to overcome multiple lengthy illnesses to get there. This was one of my favorite episodes to record as we really dove into mental mindset and struggles that we both face in our circumstances so if you are going through a tough period of training or just watn to get better at your sport then check it out. I don’t say this a lot but the whole episode is worth listening to because there’s so much wisdom that we discussed and that Ellery learns.
