Professional mountain bike coach Lindsey Richter is best known as the enthusiastic and inspiring front woman for Ladies AllRide [http://www.ladiesallride.com], a company known for empowering thousands of women across the country through the simple act of biking. We originally asked Lindsey to be part of the Roam Rydes Podcast to talk about her career as a successful international mountain bike coach....and then Gracie went missing. On a warm July 4th evening in Jackson Hole Wyoming, Lindsey's world was turned upside down. Her best friend, a blue nosed pit bull rescue named Gracie, had vanished sometime during a fireworks show. What followed was an epic weeklong journey in the Wyoming wilderness, tens of thousands of would-be rescuers via social media, and an entire mountain community hell-bent on finding Gracie. This is a story of hardship, the agonizing loss of a cherished friend, and the power of the community and oneself to beat the incredible odds in finding what matters most. As a daughter to Irani and Samoan immigrants who met and fell in love as college students, Punneh grew up integrating into multiple cultures while forging her own path in the Pacific Northwest. Punneh was touched and inspired by a high school scholarship opportunity that led to her love of the outdoors, and now she has dedicated her career to paying it forward to the next generation of adventurers.  When she isn't outside finding her own adventures, Punneh is leading Portland community members from a diverse group of backgrounds, ethnicities, and lifestyles out into the wild. She's got grit and determination , an insatiable desire to explore outside, artistic talent, and a work ethic that's hard to come by with Generation Z'ers. Her megawatt smile is impossible to ignore and she's got a personality to go with it. In the cycling communities I've dabbled in across the US, women like Brooklyn are not unusual - powerful and playful female athletes are sprinkled throughout community groups, bike shops, and yes, even races. But Brooklyn, if you haven't noticed, doesn't outwardly fit the standard cyclist mold - she's black...and black people, not to mention black women, are as Brooklyn puts it, "like seeing a little black unicorn" when it comes to meeting cyclists of color out on the trails. In this episode, and in episodes to come, we are exploring race, culture, and community with cyclists like Brooklyn as part of our Minority Report series. Our hope? To shine light on inspiring women who are being the change they want to see in the world.
