15 Things I Have Learned from Ultramarathon Training

I knew there would be a lot to learn about running an ultramarathon (a distance beyond 26.2 miles) and I also figured "how much harder could it be than running a marathon?". Boy was that a stupid question. Ultramarathons are a whole different beast and training for my first one has chewed me up and spit me out. I have been put through my paces and gotten a complete education in the last eight months. I am happy to share what I have learned in the last eight months as a midlife woman, mom of two and aspiring mountain endurance athlete. Let's dive in, shall we?

Hard Isn't a Stop Sign

Let's be honest, when we chase our goals and dreams, there WILL be obstacles that pop up. It's not about avoiding them but coming up with a gameplan for how to deal with them when they do. Just because it's hard doesn't mean you should stop. In this epsiode, we will cover some of the commonly talked about obstacles that come up in recreation like illness, injury and schedule conflicts. But we will also take a look at some of the lesser talked about ones like guilt, fear, and desire driven motivation. We will look at the ways these obstacles show up and come up with a game plan for each one so you can feel more empowered to show up for yourself and more confident in setting those goals that will help you step outside your comfort zone to achieve your dreams!
