When Fear Meets the Call of God: Finding Confidence in the Lord Through the Anxiety of Gideon

Welcome back to the All Consuming Grace Podcast with your hosts, Paul Turner and Rebecca Turner for another episode in our series on anxiety. In episode one, we learned that misplaced confidence will always produce instability. When our confidence rests in circumstances, finances, culture, other people, or even ourselves, anxiety is never far behind. But when our confidence is rooted in the Lord, we discover a peace that is not dependent upon what is happening around us. In this second episode, we turn to the life of Gideon — a man hiding in a winepress while the world around him was collapsing. Israel was living in spiritual rebellion. God’s people were no longer living consistently with who they were called to be. The culture around Gideon was marked by idolatry, fear, oppression, instability, and conflict. The Midianites consumed the land’s resources, food shortages were common, and families lived in uncertainty. Even Gideon’s own father had embraced Baal worship. Everywhere Gideon looked, there were reasons to be anxious. And then God called him. Gideon’s response sounds strikingly familiar to many anxious hearts today. Instead of confidence, he offered excuses. He questioned where God had been. He focused on his weakness. He pointed to his poor family. He reminded the Lord that he was the least in his father’s house. His confidence was misplaced because his eyes were fixed on circumstances instead of the presence of God. Yet what is so beautiful in this account is not merely Gideon’s fear — it is God’s response to it. The Lord did not crush Gideon for being anxious. He lovingly met him in the middle of it. God reminded Gideon of three life-changing truths: who the Lord is, who Gideon was in God’s eyes, and that the Lord was with him. As Christians, this passage teaches us not only how God deals with anxious people, but also how we should minister to others who are struggling with fear and instability. The answer to anxiety is not found in pretending circumstances are easy; it is found in learning to see them through the presence and promises of God. Join us as we walk through the winepress with Gideon and discover how the Lord transforms fearful people into faithful servants through His all-consuming grace.

episode The Antithesis of Anxiety: Confidence in the Lord artwork

The Antithesis of Anxiety: Confidence in the Lord

In this opening episode of our new series on anxiety, Rebecca and Paul begin at the foundation: confidence. Anxiety often exposes where our trust has quietly been placed. We put confidence in people, in predictable circumstances, in our own strength, or in the illusion of control — and when those things shake, our hearts shake with them. But Scripture continually calls us to something deeper and steadier: confidence in the Lord. Together, we explore how true hope for the anxious heart is not found in better circumstances, stronger self-confidence, or simply trying harder to “calm down.” Real peace begins when our confidence rests in the unchanging character of God Himself. Whether anxiety comes in sudden waves or has lingered for years, this series is designed to walk carefully and honestly through the treasure trove of truth God has given us in His Word. Our prayer is that these conversations will not merely provide information about anxiety, but will help lead weary hearts toward lasting hope, deeper surrender, and greater confidence in Christ. Because peace is not ultimately found in controlling life — it is found in knowing the One who holds it. Join us as we begin this journey through Scripture together.

episode Redeem Your Time: Be the Eunuch! artwork

Redeem Your Time: Be the Eunuch!

In this follow-up episode of The Guide Service Podcast, Paul Turner continues the discussion on redeeming the time by asking a challenging question: “If I had been blessed with less… would I accomplish more?” Using the incredible story of Erik Weihenmayer—the blind adventurer who summited Mount Everest and conquered countless other challenges—Paul examines how limitations sometimes create greater focus, discipline, and purpose than abundance ever could. Many of us have been richly blessed physically, materially, and spiritually. Yet the very comforts and distractions we possess can quietly rob us of urgency, intentionality, and purpose. Instead of redeeming the time, we waste it. This episode explores: * Why comfort can become a spiritual obstacle * How distractions consume our lives without us realizing it * The difference between being busy and being purposeful * What it means to truly steward free time for God’s glory Paul also turns to the example of the Ethiopian eunuch in Acts 8—a man who used his travel time not for entertainment or distraction, but to read the Scriptures and seek truth. Sitting in his chariot, reading from Isaiah the prophet, the eunuch becomes a picture of what believers should be doing with their downtime: pursuing God. Along the way, Paul humorously imagines a T-shirt that says: “Be a Eunuch!” Not because of what the man was physically—but because of what he was spiritually: hungry, intentional, and redeeming his time wisely. This episode is a convicting and practical reminder that time is life, distractions are costly, and purpose does not happen by accident.

Know Your Enemy, Part 2: Satan’s Sphere and the Battle for Worship

In this second and final part of the Know Your Enemy series on the All Consuming Grace Podcast, Paul and Rebecca Turner shift the focus from Satan’s identity to his activity—his sphere of operation in the world today. Scripture reveals Satan as the traducer—the slanderer and deceiver—and his arena is this present world. Though fallen, he still exercises real influence, working through systems, cultures, and hearts in an effort to advance his ultimate agenda: to be like God and to draw worship to himself. Every scheme, every lie, every distortion in this spiritual battle serves that singular goal. Yet this episode is not about fear—it’s about clarity and confidence. While Satan is actively “playing to win,” believers are reminded of an unshakable truth: the victory has already been secured. In Christ, we are not fighting for victory, but from it. Paul and Rebecca challenge families to recognize the enemy’s influence, stand firm in their God-given identity, and live daily in the reality of His all-consuming grace. You know your enemy—now live like you know your victory.

episode Redeeming the Time: Are You Spending Your Life or Investing It? artwork

Redeeming the Time: Are You Spending Your Life or Investing It?

On this episode of the The Guide Service Podcast, host Paul Turner takes a sobering and practical look at one of the most valuable—and most easily wasted—resources God has given us: time. If the average man lives 79 years, that’s over 700,000 hours and billions of heartbeats. But where does it all go? Between sleep, work, screens, and daily routines, it’s easy to lose sight of what really matters. Scripture calls us to “redeem the time” (Ephesians 5:16), but what does that actually look like in everyday life? Paul walks through key passages like Romans 12:11, 1 Thessalonians 4:11, and Colossians 3:23–24 to challenge the idea that busyness equals godliness. Instead, he shifts the focus to obedience, purpose, and the good works we were created for (Ephesians 2:10). Then comes a surprising and powerful question: Was Jesus lazy? Looking at moments like Jesus sleeping in the storm (Mark 4:35–41) and intentionally withdrawing from the crowds, this episode confronts our modern obsession with constant activity. Jesus was never rushed, never distracted, and never outside the will of the Father—even when that meant resting. With clarity from passages like Psalm 127:1–2 and 1 Samuel 15:22, this episode draws a sharp line between being busy and being faithful. You’ll be challenged to evaluate where your time is going, what God has actually called you to do, and how to live with intentional, obedient purpose. Because at the end of the day, it’s not about doing more—it’s about doing what matters. Are you spending your life… or investing it?

En fantastisk app med et enormt stort udvalg af spændende podcasts. Podimo formår virkelig at lave godt indhold, der takler de lidt mere svære emner. At der så også er lydbøger oveni til en billig pris, gør at det er blevet min favorit app.
