American Angst
What happens when you invite dozens of thoughtful people to write a letter to America on its 250th birthday? The responses are heartfelt, surprising, hopeful, grateful, critical, deeply personal—and unmistakably American. In this special episode of American Angst, Dr. Michael Bailey steps back from the usual conversation to listen to the voices of friends, former students, colleagues, immigrants, veterans, educators, scientists, public servants, faith leaders, and everyday citizens. More than two dozen accepted the invitation, each offering a brief "Dear America" letter reflecting on what this country has meant to them—and what they hope it can become. Mike closes the episode by expressing his gratitude for the remarkable people who shared their stories and reflecting on what these diverse voices reveal about the ongoing American experiment. Conceived by co-host Dale McConkey as part of American Angst's America 250 series, this special episode invites listeners to hear America through many different voices—hopeful, honest, challenging, and deeply human. The views expressed on American Angst are solely those of the participants and do not represent any organization.
