We are now in the second major section of the Epistle of Jude. The whole Epistle is an exhortation to believers (see v. 3), but Jude now turns his attention from describing and denouncing the apostates to exhorting believers on how they are to live in the midst of apostasy. These verses show the believer's life in sharp contrast to the apostates warned of in the first section of the book. To survive the onslaught of apostasy, we need the right kind of walk. In a final blow to the Apostate teachers, Jude now brings two prophetic witnesses to bear, drawing on the prophetic predictions of Enoch (O.T.) and the Apostles (N.T.). At the end of each of these, Jude adds his own application to the present-day apostates (See Vs. 16 & 19).

The severity of the language employed by the Holy Ghost increases in this section. Jude's fiery denunciation of the apostates gets even fierier! Note the word 'woe'. To further teach his readers concerning the character of these evil apostates, Jude employs eight illustrations. Three of these are again drawn from the Old Testament, and the remaining five are drawn from the realm of nature.
