Each episode, we talk about the production history of each film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe; who made it, how it was made, and why? In this show, we reject the mythologising that has endured in the hope of demystifying the films from one of the most opaque studios in Hollywood. All in service of gaining a deeper understanding of how it became the most successful franchise in movie history, and why it feels like it’s lost its way. Episode 1: Iron Man (2008)

Welcome to the first actual episode of Box of Scraps. In this episode, we take a brief look at the previous attempts to adapt the Iron Avenger on film, how Robert Downey Jr. was almost NOT Tony Stark, and how the Marvel Cinematic Universe began. We also get into the nitty-gritty about the mythologising around the claim of ‘Iron Man had no script,' (Spoilers: It did, and I’ve read it), and briefly touch on how the franchise - and our namesake - was assembled with nothing but a box of scraps (and $500m from Merrill Lynch).
