In what should be a surprise to nobody, Joe Thornton has signed a 1-year contract in San Jose. This comes just 2 days after the Sharks and Patrick Marleau each confirmed the two sides would not be coming to an agreement. Despite back to back walk-off losses, the A's still went 4-2 against the Yankees this season, and could have realistically won all 6 games. In a New York weekend with a sour taste, there are plenty of good items on Oakland's radar: including some call-ups, the return of Sean Manaea, and the hope for a group which still likely has 'another gear' in store.
