#29 The Spirit of Play vs. Responsibility

The Canaries invite Mike's friend Marcus to grapple with one of their ongoing debates on Mike's favorite concept, "the spirit of play." While Mike sees playfulness as a curative for many of societies ills, Marcus argues the dangers of promoting it in a culture that is increasingly narcissistic and clearly declining into mindless hedonism. In true form, Rob comes to the rescue with a viable heuristic that reconciles play with responsibility. But, Marcus holds the line, and thus prolongs this debate into the most playful episode ever.

The Canaries discuss the book 'The Slight Edge' by Jeff Olson.  Rob emphasizes the book's call to create positive slight edge habits while Mike drags the conversation toward the edge of his depression.

In this episode the Canaries discuss the role alcohol plays in our culture. Rob is on day 23 of his experiment with being alcohol free. They discuss powerful insights around that journey as Mike sips the two Moscow Mules Rob made for him. Toward the end of their conversation they discover that the drink had an interesting twist.
