Maybe it was assembling furniture without instructions, confident the picture on the box was enough—only to end up with a lopsided disaster held together with makeshift reinforcements. He gets the answer right when everyone else is confused. He correctly identifies Jesus as the Messiah. But while Peter understands Jesus's identity, he completely misunderstands Jesus's mission. He sees enough to know who Jesus is, but not enough to grasp what kind of Messiah He came to be.
