Cornelius Cornelii à Lapide, a Belgian priest born in 1567, was a remarkable scholar known for his extensive work in theology and biblical commentary. After becoming a priest in 1595, he dedicated his life to teaching philosophy and Hebrew while preaching and administering the Sacraments. In 1616, he relocated to Rome, where he focused on enhancing his renowned commentaries that span nearly every book of the Bible. His writings, showcasing a profound understanding of Hebrew, Greek, Latin, Syriac, and Arabic, also reflect his deep engagement with the church fathers. Over 30 volumes of his Latin commentaries established themselves as essential texts for Catholic scriptural interpretation until the modern era. - Summary by ancientchristian
