episode #20 Errick Easterday: Documenting & Preserving a Generation of Music cover

Description

On this episode of Conversations With Carswell, I sit down with Errick Easterday, one of the most prominent photographers and videographers in the metal scene worldwide. Even if you do not know his name, you have almost certainly seen his work over the past decade through a music video, a promo shot, or live concert photography. As I write this, he is on tour with Knocked Loose and Metallica across Europe, and he has toured extensively with Gojira and countless other bands around the world. Errick and I go back over a decade, so this conversation felt personal. We get deep into the technical side of the craft, discussing gear, software, and technique across both photography and videography. We cover the behind-the-scenes details that rarely get talked about, along with how he built a career shooting some of the biggest names in metal and where it all started for the two of us. This is truly one of my favorite conversations to date.

#19 shy!!!: Shively, J Dilla, & Building Louisville From the Inside

shy!!! is a producer from Shively, Louisville, Kentucky and if you've been paying attention to what's coming out of this city, his name keeps showing up. A placement on Jack Harlow's JACKMAN. Executive production credits. A beat tape in whatuuseeisallreal!!! that moves with the precision and vision of a full film. And all of it rooted in a philosophy of sound that traces back to J Dilla, community, and a deep respect for the craft. In this conversation, Chris and shy!!! talk about growing up in Shively, what it means to find yourself in the process of making music, the blur between discovering a beat and creating one, and how consciousness itself plays a role in what ends up on the track. They also get into the Louisville scene, collective building, and what 2026 is shaping up to be. Conversations With Carswell is produced by Carswell Media Group.
