#5 Ricky Nuttall - Dear Everyone, It's Our Differences That Unite Us.

Ricky Nuttall is a firefighter most notably known for fighting the Grenfell fire. I first saw Ricky doing a talk at a live show of another podcast, and myself along with the entire audtiorium were completely blown away by what Ricky had been through. When he isn't bravely fighting fires and saving lives, Ricky gives keynote speeches and talks based on his own post-fire experience, and how the events of that night led him to an incredibly harrowing and dark place.  Ricky uses his story to help other servicemen and women suffering from mental health battles as a result of their job, as was made evident during his time on SAS: Who Dares Wins.  Ricky was incredibly honest, open and candid in this episode.  We talk about: * Growing up in a melting pot of cultures and nationalities * The inherent problem of racism, and how it can be tackled * Why he first wanted to be a firefighter aged 3 * The night of Grenfell, and the traumatic experience Ricky and his team went through * Having only 8 minutes of oxygen left, 15 floors up.  * The impact Grenfell had on him, and the battles he began to fight  * His path to recovery, and his segway into keynote speaking Instagram: justrick999 justrick.co.uk --------------------- If you have an interesting story to share with the world, or you have a message you're dying to let everyone know, feel free to get in touch with me at shaz@deareveryonepod.co.uk. The Things You Think Matter, Don't | Eshaan Akbar | #5

Eshaan Akbar is an ex-banker turned stand-up comedian. If you haven't seen him on your feeds, in a venue near you, or on your TV (QI, Mock the Week) - you're missing out!  It was a joy to record this epsiode and hear all about Eshaan’s life.  We talk about:  - Growing up too white to be brown, and too brown to be white  - Money, a banking career and impressing aunties  - Trading it all to pursue comedy  - His relationship with his late mother  - Dealing with frief, and the grief balloon.  - And of course - we talk about Eshaan’s message to the world, “Dear Everyone, the things that you think matter, don’t - and the things you forget matter, do.”  This episode is everything you can expect from Eshaan, in that it’s both incredibly funny yet incredibly moving at the same time. I took alot of value from my time with Eshaan, and I only hope you all can too.  Instagram & Twitter: @eshaankbar  www.eshaanakbar.com  ---------------------  If you have an interesting story to share with the world, or you have a message you're dying to let everyone know, feel free to get in touch with me at shaz@deareveryonepod.co.uk.  You can also find us on Instagram: @deareveryonepod  ----------------------  The views expressed by our guests do not necessarily reflect the views of Dear Everyone or its hosts.

episode E4: Dear Everyone, The World Is Your Classroom - Ian Pilbeam artwork

E4: Dear Everyone, The World Is Your Classroom - Ian Pilbeam

In 2008, Ian Pilbeam did something most would consider crazy. He left his job, and took his wife and two young children backpacking around the world for a year. Not only did Ian and his family experience many, many incredible moments, Ian wrote about it all in his best-seller, Are We There Yet? I spoke to Ian about his favourite moments, the biggest lessons him and his family learnt, how to overcome fear when wanting to change your life, and also - Ian talks about how he has transformed his life and business into one which restricts him of any schedule and lets him travel to his hearts content. Both this episode and Ian's experiences are inspiring, educational and very entertaining. In his own words: "From Bali to Beijing, Edinburgh to Ecuador and Madagascar to Machu Picchu, it certainly wasn’t your average holiday!"  If you love travelling, have plans to travel, or are even in a position where your sick and tired of your everyday and are desperate to pursue your dreams (no matter how crazy they may seem), this is the episode for you. episode E3: Chris Berry - Dear Everyone, Just Have Patience. artwork

E3: Chris Berry - Dear Everyone, Just Have Patience.

“A lifetime of abuse, near death injury, failure & great loss, I'm now bulletproof & sharing my experiences as I take on new challenges.” On the surface, Chris Berry has it all. A successful design agency, three children and a portfolio of impressive charity work. But as many things, there is a lot that took place in Chris' life before he got the point he is today. Chris talks to us about an array of experiences and topics that helped him shape and adopt a 'bulletproof' lifestyle which he practices everyday. From being a vicitim of child abuse which he has only recently been able to talk about, to losing most of his possession in a house fire, to becoming homeless and sleeping in his car secretly without his own kids knowing - and the subsequent stroke he suffered as a result.  Chris’ story is incredibly inspiring, honest, relatable - and is filled with nuggets of incredibly valuable advice, especially around the topic of writing and communication.  Dear Everyone, Just Have Patience. --------------------- If you have an interesting story to share with the world, or you have a message you're dying to let everyone know, feel free to get in touch with me at shaz@deareveryonepod.co.uk. episode E2: Naman Jawaid - Dear Everyone, Learn To Forgive. artwork

E2: Naman Jawaid - Dear Everyone, Learn To Forgive.

In this episode, Naman tells us his fascinating story which starts with an upbringing filled with emotional abuse, physical abuse and financial abuse. Having regularly seen his mother be a victim to such, he tells of the effects and impact this had on him as he navigated through his teens and early 20s. He also talks in great depth about a breakup which left him in severe depression and suicidal.  It's this period of severe depression which resulted in a gambling habit, which although relatable to many, spiralled so far out of control to the point where he was handed a prison sentence as a resault of fraud. His story in prison is harrowing, and Naman talks about the horrors he witnessed, the time he was stabbed, the people he met, and his introduction to a drug known as spice (which is actually a pretty funny story).  Today, Naman has his own podcast @realitycheckpodcastshow, he is also in the process of writing his own comedy show @shenaniganstvcomedy. On top it all, his story is due to be ghostwritten. The important message take from his life today however is his recovery - and how he went from a depressed, suicidal addict in prison to cherishing waking up each day. A key part of this story, and Naman's message to the world, is the idea of forgiveness. Although a key part is learning to forgive yourself, learning to forgive others is vital not only for your path for recovery but also for helping you to live a better, more fulfilled life. A brilliant episode with a guest whose problems are incredibly relatable in this world, and with that Naman can only hope his stories, his message and his recovery can only go on to inspire many.  Dear Everyone, Learn To Forgive. --------------------- This episode contains disturbing imagery and themes of suicide.  If you have an interesting story to share with the world, or you have a message you're dying to let everyone know, feel free to get in touch with me at shaz@deareveryonepod.co.uk.
