Rueful Regret Audiobook by Steve Vernon

Title: Rueful Regret Author: Steve Vernon Narrator: Charles Craig Format: Unabridged Length: 3 hrs Language: English Release date: 10-31-17 Publisher: Stark Raven Press Genres: Fiction, Westerns Publisher's Summary: This is a story that sounds like a cross between Lonesome Dove and Twin Peaks. Meet Bass Clayton, a bounty killer turned professional drunkard. Silver Grimes is the man who inadvertently turned Bass Clayton into a drunk; after Bass accidentally shot Silver's arm off with an eight gauge shotgun. Sally Jezebel has a secret that she is keeping from both of them. Their lives are going to turn when Newt Gallagher comes riding into Willy Jake's bar on top of Pritcher Targate's prize sow. What you have got to ask yourself is just how far one man will go for revenge? Members Reviews: Peyote goodness I think I've found a new sub-genre I really enjoy. Or maybe it's just the way Steve does the telling. Or probably both. I do know one thing, Steve Vernon excels at these kinds of stories. "Long Horn, Big Shaggy" was my introduction to this special breed or storytelling, and truthfully, I hadn't actually looked for any others. The movie "Blueberry" comes to mind. After this, I think I'll go a lookin'. Bass Clayton (great name by the way) is a whiskey drinkin', quiet thinkin' bad ass of a bounty hunter who, on one fateful job, manages to put a charge of shot into his target...and soon wishes he could take it all back. Silver Grimes is, actually I still haven't figured it out exactly *what* he is, (that could be the cold medicine talking), but he shows up two years after having his arm blown off by Bass. Think Silver would be none too pleased? Well, he ain't. But he's not so eager for revenge as we might think. He's about... deeper things. And the opening chapters to mid-point had me thinking that any moment, Silver was going to start in with a whoopin' about Bass's head and shoulders. Only he didn't. Which, I gotta admit, perplexed me. Until the second half of the story. The second half has, in typical Vernon fashion, scenes horrifying to visualize, and there was one instance in particular, just the sheer simplicity of it, which made me cringe. The imagery isn't for the faint of heart. There are nightmares on paper here, the kind where you can hear the worms gnawing away at the edges, but you still refuse to drop the book. Rueful Regret is storytelling just after sunset, when the light's just gone from the sky, and those first flames of a fire pit take life. This pony moseys along at a deadwood pace, but there's an undercurrent of darkness here, of things not quite played out, of debts not yet paid, things best left undone and of consequences juuust about to happen. I liked it very much. As with "Long Horn Big Shaggy" there are head shaking lines of pure gold and brow-cocking similes that, once again, made me just sit back and wonder where the hell Steve comes up with it all. If it's from a well, it's probably one of those dusty stone jobs with a bucket hanging over the depths, somewhere in a desert where the wind never blows. I for one, hope it's plenty deep. Excellent Western An excellent novella. The best of the recent Steve Vernon stories that I've read. Hilarious but also moving in parts. Unlike in other Vernon stories that I have read, the final third remains strong. I've previously found that he's strayed into mindless action sequences in his final act, at least in Tatterdemon and Long Horn Big Shaggy. Lots of typos and errors that should have been caught during proof reading.

You Think I Shot Him Audiobook by Paul L. Thompson

Please visit https://thebookvoice.com/podcasts/audiobook/1343/ [https://thebookvoice.com/podcasts/audiobook/1343/] to download full audiobooks of your choice for free. Title: You Think I Shot Him Subtitle: Tales of the Old West, Book 41 Author: Paul L. Thompson Narrator: Thomas Conder Format: Unabridged Length: 2 hrs and 55 mins Language: English Release date: 09-20-17 Publisher: Outlaws Publishing LLC Genres: Fiction, Westerns Publisher's Summary: Early one summer morning, 14-year-old Vivian Thompson rode out of Taos, New Mexico Territory, on her way to Cimarron. Following the stage road east up Taos Canyon, would take several hours getting to the top of the summit, 9,100 feet high Palo Flechado Pass. The road ran along the north side of a meandering creek. Farther up it switched back left then right, growing steeper and steeper. Once up top there was a pull out clear spot where the stage stopped to rest horses. She stopped and looked down the east side of the mountain. Miles below she could see the Moreno Valley. Just as she started to ride on, she heard a pistol shot then a rifle fired echoing loud and long. A short second later the pistol fired again. She looked down a canyon leading east by southeast and saw chimney smoke coming from a small log cabin. "Horse, that sounds as if someone is in trouble. We'd better check that out." She reached down and removed the thong from the hammer of her 45, then without looking reached and touched the stock of her 44 40. Members Reviews: Mr. Thompson continues his majesty of authoring another great western novel, as this one had a little different storyline. I was impressed with his storyline, as the characters were somewhat different than his normal group. Excellent book. Very well deserving of the five stars I awarded the book, and was even more impressed with exciting newer characters. I had no problem following the leads exhibited throughout the entire story. Too, I sincerely recommend this book to all those interested in a different western setting, as the characters will certainly be a surprise to most of you. Don't miss this story, or it will certainly be your loss. A western where children are smart I enjoy this US Marshal Shortly Thompson's stories. You will turn in so mistakes in word used or wrong name of person, I just fill in correct one. This author is writing in western language and then changing to normal English. I can understand his problem. I don't read the forwards can give too much information. Not a very believable Western. The main character is a 14 year old girl. Not very believable that she could get the best of several no good, mean frontier bad men. I Killed Them A very well written book a little long it tooth sometimes but very enjoyable .The kids were believable and some times funny. Five Stars Great stories.

Title: Vengeance, One Way or the Other Subtitle: Clay Barton: Bounty Hunter Author: Jose Benjamin Narrator: Gene Blake Format: Unabridged Length: 1 hr and 11 mins Language: English Release date: 08-09-17 Publisher: Outlaws Publishing LLC Genres: Fiction, Westerns Publisher's Summary: The undertaker was a tall and strangely enough, handsome fellow. He was surprisingly young. I expected someone who dabbled in such work to be much older and more seasoned in appearance. Still, he spoke with the same nonchalance towards death that most men of his trade speak with. Men like this undertaker were almost like death's messengers on this Earth. They worked to usher in new souls for the afterlife, but they did not revel in what they did. They simply did what they had to do.

In January 2017, a call went out for wannabe authors to sign up to win a one year contract with Western Publisher, Outlaws Publishing. The first part of a Western story was given and the author was supposed to finish it in their own words. Outlaws is very pleased to announce the first entrant is Manuela Schneider. She did a great job with The Pink Pistol, therefore winning that coveted one year contract. We expect Miz Schneider to follow up this story with another and another and etc. Members Reviews: Cowgirl Up! Manuela Schneider is such a lovely, talented and inspirational woman. Her enthusiasm & love for the Wild West and imagination spill over into her character Liberty Belle. I really enjoy reading the thoughts she pens to a page, they take me to a different time and place. I may have to get some pink grips for my gun. Great start to... an entertaining serial in the Old West genre. This is in the spirit of the classics like The Cactus Kid series. We need more like this! Adventures of the Pink Pistol This is a very well written Western novel, taking us on the adventures of the "Pink Pistol", a must read for any Old West enthusiast. The first one in this series, I could not put it down! Fun to read. Very enjoyable read. Can't wait for the next. A MUST READ FOR ALL WESTERN LOVERS! Right out of the gate with her first Western novel, Manuela Schneider captures the true essence of the old West from a woman's point. Its as though she's lived it herself!
