Ep 6 The Famine Was a Myth | Irish Soda Bread and the Food Legacy of British Settler Colonialism

Happy St. Patrick's Day! Looking to celebrate or learn a bit more about Irish history ?Check out the blog for our Irish Soda Bread recipe [https://www.eatingrooted.com/on-ireland-soda-bread-colonialism-and-the-great-famine] and to learn more about the true history of the potato famine [https://www.eatingrooted.com/on-st-patricks-day] - to be succinct, in the words of the late Sinéad O’Connor (Shuhada Sadaqat), “Okay, I want to talk about Ireland. Specifically, I want to talk about the famine. About the fact that there never really was one.” And so do we. Join us for a conversation all about our family's Irish soda bread recipe, the story we heard growing up about how they made their way over to the United States, and to learn more about how as one of the first English colonies, Ireland was the site of some of the first plantations in the world.
