Dean: Hi Vaibhav! Welcome & great having you on the Evoke podcast! So as you know music is not just a spiritual thing as everyone says, I think it’s more a soul & emotional thing! So we’re starting off by asking, why you chose to make a House mix?
Vaibhav: I think what motivated me to do a house mix was the pure joy, and love I felt after playing various genres of music over the years and stumbling across House. House has always been timeless, and it just never gets old! I think this mix will never go out of style!
Dean: So true! Tell us all a little bit about your journey as a DJ/Producer, and why you chose to be a DJ when stereotypically most Indian parents would probably want their children to be Doctors or Engineers etc?
Vaibhav: I think I was around 13 years old watching VH1 and the track Animals by Martin Garrix came on. I clearly remember in that moment I knew what I wanted to do! For a long time, I learnt and manifested to produce and finally took the leap to pursue this full time. It was an easy decision to take at that time but in hindsight, I realise how scary it was for me to take that leap, but I’m glad I did! My parents are happy and proud they always knew that I’d be successful doing whatever I wanted to do in life especially since I started making an income and sustaining myself!
Dean: You have come a long way and your genre portfolio is vast, being fairly young, but having over 7 years under your belt as a DJ/Producer what are the things that challenged you the most?
Vaibhav: It’s been a tough journey and life has humbled me a lot! The realisation that I have to be open to the idea of accepting things that I don’t know in order to know more has been difficult and the lack of rest! Life is great and fun, but things just doesn’t feel right when your health is compromised. Over the years, I have burnt out finding the right balance between rest and work. I have learnt to stick with the punches though, and as they say life will always have its ups and downs but I am game!
Dean: We know you have played alongside some amazing artists but give us a couple of your most treasured moments being a DJ?
Vaibhav: I think every single moment till date has been a blessing even the worst ones have proven to teach me a lot with no regrets whatsoever. However, I cherish the friends I have made along the way who are family now, and being a part of Trusound Goa, has been nothing but amazing. The journey from being a bedroom producer to roaming with the best in the industry & being treated like I’m one of their own is…truly special!
Dean: One final one before we get into your crazy mix. What piece of advice do you have for upcoming DJ’s who are trying to break the ceiling in this music industry?
Vaibhav: My honest opinion would be to do whatever feels right regardless of all the stereotypes! I would say.. learn your craft & the technology that you use. Dive into the industry’s history and learn about all the people that built up the platform. Be humble and learn to respect those who have been here before you!
Dean: Humbling to hear! Thank you, Vaibhav, love the fab mix! Wish you all the best for the future and looking forward to big things to come. Cheers
