How To Be Happy | The Jesus Way | May 17th, 2026

This Sunday we begin our summer-long series through the greatest sermon ever preached: the words of Jesus in Matthew 5, 6, and 7. It is rich, challenging, and calls us to deeper obedience as His followers. At this early point in His ministry, Jesus’ fame is spreading, but He doesn’t collect fans — He calls followers to live in allegiance to His authority. I’ll be honest with you: there are some hard sayings that He lays down. He looks at a crowd of people who LOVE His miracles, healings, and what He can offer them, but the question is: do they really love Jesus and His way? It’s a timely challenge for our church family. There is a way we like to live, and there is a way we must live if we’re going to follow Jesus. He looks at the crowd, invites them in, and shows them what it truly means to be His disciple. Jesus has an agenda in this portion of His teaching: to make sure people truly understand what it means to follow Him for His sake, not just because of what He can give them. This week, we’ll cover Matthew 5:1–12 with a message titled, “How to Be Happy.” Everyone, without exception, wants to be happy. But what does it mean to be truly happy in God despite our circumstances? The hard truth is that many of us who follow Jesus seek deep happiness, joy, and satisfaction apart from Jesus and His way. We don’t hunger and thirst for Him like we ought to. If we’re honest, we hunger for affirmation, healing, money, and comfort in this life. We look within ourselves and to the world to find fulfillment. Our hearts are drawn to other things for “happiness,” and in this passage, Jesus comes in hot and lays down some hard truth. If you want to find true happiness, it starts with brokenness. Jesus is NOT looking for more people to sit in rows, fill a room, and watch Him work. He’s looking for followers who will live under His teaching and His way. episode Purpose in Pain | Meant For Good | May 10th, 2026 artwork

Purpose in Pain | Meant For Good | May 10th, 2026

Some of the deepest wounds we carry are not only about what happened to us, but who hurt us. We live in a broken world, but we also live in broken relationships. Betrayal, disappointment, conflict, and pain can leave marks on our hearts that are hard to move past. And when the pain runs deep, many of us find ourselves asking: Where was God in this? This Sunday, we will conclude our series on the life of Joseph. After years of betrayal, loss, false accusation, and suffering, Joseph finally stands face to face with the very brothers who caused so much of his pain. In that moment, he has a choice: will he allow bitterness to take root, or will he trust that God has been working even here? Joseph’s story reminds us that pain can become a lens. If we are not careful, it can distort the way we see God, others, and ourselves. It can keep us fixed on the offense and unable to move forward. But Genesis 45 invites us to see something different: Where the world wants us to stay paralyzed in pain, God invites us to view our pain through His purpose. Joseph was able to say, “God sent me.” Later, he would say, “You meant evil against me, but God meant it for good.” That does not mean the pain was not real. It does not mean the wounds did not matter. It means the pain was not pointless. Choose Forgiveness | Meant For Good | May 3rd, 2026

This Sunday we continue our series on the life of Joseph. This week will be the heaviest conversation we have had yet as we talk about how to find healing when we have been hurt. Joseph has faced many tests up to this point in his life, and this one is by far the biggest he will face: forgiveness and restoration. It has been a long time since he last interacted with his brothers. His dreams have now come to fulfillment. He sees them and could have ignored them, but instead he tests them to see if they have experienced real transformation in their hearts since the hurt they caused. We have much to cover this Sunday as we look at portions of Scripture from Genesis 41 through 43. Joseph shows many lessons for us to learn. How do we offer forgiveness? What should we feel emotionally? When do we need to test people and discern whether they are being honest? He forgives, blesses, and eats with them before they confess or acknowledge anything. Forgiveness might not fix someone else, but it will free you. Oftentimes when we face hurtful emotions and people, we retreat to a safe place where there is no hurt. We can ignore it. However, the safe places with no hurt are also places with no healing or joy. episode Pit to Palace | Meant For Good | April 26th, 2026 artwork

Pit to Palace | Meant For Good | April 26th, 2026

This week we will continue in our series  “Meant for Good.” We have been studying the life of Joseph, and we will be in chapters 40 and 41 of the book of Genesis. The title of the message is “Pit to Palace.” Throughout these two chapters, we see that Joseph interprets dreams for a cupbearer, a baker, and King Pharaoh himself. These dreams and interpretations are extraordinary and life-changing for all involved, including Joseph. Most people have a hard time seeing what God is doing in their lives to prepare them for the things He wants to do. It is difficult to see what will be when we are deep in what is. One of the most prominent characteristics we see in the life of Joseph is his faithfulness, no matter where he was. Whether in the pit or in the palace, Joseph stayed true to God and was being conformed from the inside out so that God could use him for His glory. This Sunday, we want to ask ourselves, “What is God doing in my life to conform and prepare me for His future glory?” WEBSITE: https://five39.church/ FACEBOOK: https://www.facebook.com/five39church/ INSTAGRAM: https://www.instagram.com/five39church/ PODCAST: https://anchor.fm/five39-church/

episode Protected by His Presence | Meant For Good | April 19, 2026 artwork

Protected by His Presence | Meant For Good | April 19, 2026

This week, we continue our series on the life of Joseph, looking at Chapter 39 with a message titled, “Protected by His Presence.” Often, we walk through the highs and lows of life and wonder, “Is God really with me?” If He is, why am I experiencing so much turmoil, temptation, and trial? God was with Joseph in a unique way, and it wasn’t shown in the absence of problems, but in the pit and the prison he experienced. He was innocent, and yet his life was full of trouble. You would think God would let up on him. He seems to be doing the right thing over and over, and yet we see him attacked again and again. We will see clearly that living in integrity doesn’t mean you won’t be lied about, and that God’s protection and presence are on those who fear Him and are faithful. Joseph has a high view of sin and is obedient in every way. We have the opportunity to see the beginning, middle, and end of his story, and really the “what” and “why” behind what God is allowing. We don’t get that same opportunity in our own stories. God is often calling us deeper for reasons we cannot yet see. Instead of asking “why” or “what,” we may need to look up and simply ask for strength to be faithful—to fear the Lord and do the next right thing. Our goal this Sunday is to encourage those who are experiencing the pit or the prison: God’s protection and presence are found there, not just once you experience relief.
