episode 79: Your Expectations Are Your Responsibility artwork

79: Your Expectations Are Your Responsibility

Have you ever been upset with someone… and they had absolutely no idea why? 😅 This week, we’re talking all about expectations, disappointment, communication, and the quiet resentment that can build when we expect people to show up in ways we never actually communicated. Because if we’re being honest, so many of us do this. We assume people think like us. Love like us. Show up like us. And when they don’t, it can leave us feeling hurt, frustrated, disappointed, or unseen. In this episode, we’re unpacking the unspoken “rules” we sometimes create in our own heads and how those silent expectations can affect our friendships, relationships, family dynamics, and even motherhood. We talk about: * expecting people to mind-read * projecting our standards and effort onto others * resentment quietly building over time * communicating needs clearly instead of hoping people “just know” * the difference between boundaries and expectations * accepting people for who they are instead of trying to change them One of the biggest things we kept coming back to in this conversation was this: people aren’t always failing you… sometimes they’re simply being who they are. And while that can sting, it also gives you clarity. This episode felt like such an important reminder that peaceful relationships usually come from clear communication, honest expectations, and taking responsibility for what we accept instead of trying to control how others show up. If you’ve been feeling disappointed by people lately or stuck in cycles of resentment, we think this conversation will really resonate with you 🤍  We’re so happy you’re here. xoxo Jacqui & Ashley Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/hermit-haven--6315196/support [https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/hermit-haven--6315196/support?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=rss].

episode 78:The Emotional Weight Women and Mothers Carry artwork

78:The Emotional Weight Women and Mothers Carry

With Mother’s Day coming up, we wanted to sit down and have a really honest conversation about something that so many women and moms are carrying, but don’t always have the words for. The emotional weight of it all. If you’ve been feeling overwhelmed, constantly “on,” mentally drained, or like you’re the one holding everything together behind the scenes, this episode is for you. We’re talking about the invisible load. The mental checklist that never shuts off. Being the default person everyone comes to. And how exhausting it can feel to always be thinking five steps ahead. We also get into the emotional side of it. Holding space for everyone else’s feelings and attempting to stay calm and regulated even when you’re overwhelmed. And then there’s the motherhood layer. Carrying your kids’ emotions like they’re your own. The guilt, even when you’re doing your best. Showing up every day even when you’re running on empty. And quietly wondering who you are outside of being “mom.” We talk about the parts people don’t always see too. Doing so much and still feeling like it’s not enough. Feeling unacknowledged. Feeling alone in it sometimes. There’s a moment in this episode where we say something that really hit for us: Sometimes it’s not that we need help, we just don’t want to be the one responsible for everything. If that resonates, you’re not alone in that feeling. This conversation is here to remind you that you’re not too much. You might just be carrying too much. And you don’t have to do it all to be enough. episode 77: Why You Should Celebrate Yourself More (and Let Others Celebrate You Too) artwork

77: Why You Should Celebrate Yourself More (and Let Others Celebrate You Too)

We celebrate birthdays. Big milestones. The obvious moments. But everything in between? The showing up, the growth, the hard days you got through… we usually just move right past it like it doesn’t count. In this episode, we’re talking about why you deserve to celebrate yourself way more than you probably do. Not just when something big happens, but in your everyday life. We get into how easy it is to downplay our wins, move the goalpost, and tell ourselves we’ll celebrate “later.” And how that can keep us from actually feeling proud of ourselves in the moment. We also talk about something that doesn’t get brought up enough — how uncomfortable it can feel to let other people celebrate you. Both of us share moments where someone was excited for us or proud of us, and our first instinct was to brush it off instead of receiving it. This episode is a reminder that you don’t need permission to celebrate your life. The small things count. The quiet growth counts. You showing up counts. And learning to acknowledge that, and even let other people celebrate you too, is such a big part of building confidence and actually enjoying your life as it is right now. ✨ In this episode, we talk about: * Why we only celebrate ourselves once a year (and why that needs to change) * The small, everyday wins that actually deserve recognition * How we downplay our progress without realizing it * Moving the goalpost and waiting to celebrate “later” * Why receiving praise and celebration can feel uncomfortable * Letting people be excited for you instead of brushing it off * How celebrating yourself builds confidence and self-worth 💭 Reflection for you: * What’s something you’ve done recently that you didn’t give yourself enough credit for? * Where are you waiting to celebrate instead of allowing it now? * How do you respond when someone compliments or celebrates you? 🌸 Try this this week: * Say out loud: “I’m proud of myself for…” * Share a small win with someone you trust * Do something simple to celebrate yourself (flowers, coffee, a slow moment) * Let someone compliment you without deflecting it Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/hermit-haven--6315196/support [https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/hermit-haven--6315196/support?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=rss].

episode 76: Are We Living the Life We Said We Wanted? First Quarter Check-in artwork

76: Are We Living the Life We Said We Wanted? First Quarter Check-in

Okay wait… how are we already here?  We started this year with so much intention. We said we wanted to show up differently, be more present, and really shine our light. And then life happens… things get busy, routines shift, and suddenly we’re a few months in.  So in this episode, we’re pausing for a real, honest check-in. We’re asking ourselves the questions we don’t always stop to ask: Are we actually living the life we said we wanted? Are we showing up the way we hoped we would? Or have we slowly slipped into autopilot without realizing it?  We talk about where we feel aligned, where we’ve drifted, and how we’re gently resetting for the next season — without guilt, pressure, or starting over completely. Just coming back to what matters.  We also share how we personally check in with our lives, from looking at where our time is actually going to revisiting the goals we set at the beginning of the year (and asking if they still feel right). This episode is your reminder that it’s okay to pause. It’s okay to reassess. And it’s never too late to realign with the version of you you were excited to become. Reflection Questions: * Do you feel fulfilled in this season of your life? * Are your days reflecting what you said you wanted this year? * Where has most of your time and energy been going? * What do you want more of in this next season? * What’s one small shift you can make to feel more aligned? Takeaway: You’re not behind — you just paused. And you can start again from right where you are.
