Episode 10 - What if Sweating Too Much Was a Thought Error? Hey everyone! Ever wondered why some people sweat a lot more than others? In today's exciting episode of "How to Sweat Less," we're exploring a fascinating idea: what if sweating too much is just a little mistake our brains make? In our adventure, I'll be your guide, Megan Cameron! We'll start by talking about thought errors – those funny little mistakes our brains sometimes make that can affect how we feel and act. Just like a supercomputer, our brains can get a bit mixed up sometimes! Now, let's think about sweating. Have you ever felt yucky or embarrassed because you sweat a lot? Well, guess what? It might just be a silly mistake our brains are making! Everyone feels differently about sweating, just like how some people love spicy food and others don't. Here are some other cool things we'll learn about: 1. **All-or-nothing thinking:** Some people might love sweating because it makes them feel like they've had a good workout, while others might not like it because it makes them feel uncomfortable. But that's okay – we're all different! 2. **Overgeneralization:** People's feelings about sweating can be based on their own experiences. Some might think sweating is normal and healthy, while others might feel self-conscious about it. It's like how some people love swimming because they grew up near the beach! 3. **Catastrophizing:** Sometimes, people might make a big deal out of sweating because of their own insecurities. But just because someone else thinks that, doesn't mean it's true for you! By the end of our adventure, you'll feel super awesome and ready to challenge those yucky thoughts about sweating. Because here's the truth: sweating's totally okay and doesn't make you any less amazing! Let's be kind to ourselves. So, join me on "How to Sweat Less" and let's learn all about understanding sweating and feeling great about ourselves! After all, you're amazing just the way you are!

Special guest Maria Thomas, founder of the blog My Life as a Puddle [https://mylifeasapuddle.com], and Hyperhidrosis trailblazer, shares her 13 year journey advocating for hyperhidrosis. She discusses Botox injections for sweating relief, urging thorough doctor research. The conversation explores treatment side effects like compensatory sweating and personal experiences, highlighting the need for self-advocacy, life coaching and community support. Hyperhidrosis's hereditary nature, life challenges, and societal misunderstandings are addressed. Both Megan and Maria emphasize self-acceptance, mindset shifts, and coping strategies, advocating for authenticity and openness about struggles. They stress the importance of being one's own health advocate and offer resources for further support.
I realized that no matter what physically I did to help me with my excessive sweating, in my mind, I was still a person who excessively sweat. It still controlled me. It still ran my life. I still had all of the shame, all of the embarrassment. All of the social anxiety that I had growing up. It was still all there. Botox stopped the excessive sweat, but it didn't change who I was. I didn't get to enjoy the feeling of sweating less because in my mind, I still identified as a person that sweat too much.
