I Feel Like I Should
Peay is a professor of Black Studies and a native of Southeast Texas with seven years of experience working in secondary education across the Houston area. Peay begins with Olivia Dean, country music, New Kids on the Block, MTV, BET, grunge, R&B, hip-hop, and the later wave of boy bands that never really connected for him. Growing up in Southeast Texas, music was not one lane. Many sounds were present at once, even if some never landed. From there, the episode turns toward the American Dream and the promises many people were raised on: get an education, follow the path, build a life. Peay discusses Southern expectations around adulthood, race, class, generational wealth, and what happens when the rules people inherit no longer align with the world they live in. Peay also shares why Snarky Puppy is a band more people should hear. Follow the show for updates and new episodes.
