About InProximity

I lived most of my life in proximity to what others thought of or expected of me, but not really knowing my own inner landscape. Now I’m living in harmony with my body and my higher purpose. With this podcast, I want to get in proximity to other humans who have navigated rough waters and found healing. Content and themes will vary, since I have the desire to explore and discuss a multitude of topics with guests from diverse backgrounds and perspectives. Insatiable curiosity is at the core of this podcast. I don't have all the answers, but I certainly have a lot of questions.

Self-Trust & Philosophy: A Journey Out of Fundamentalism

In this empathic and dynamic conversation, I speak with my friend and colleague, Julia Krump, LCSW, about her own recovery from harmful fundamentalist church doctrines and practices – a process she notes is ongoing, even after 18 years – and her passion for helping others move through their own similar experiences. Julia shares numerous resources and insights that have helped her and her clients heal, including how reorienting her own life toward philosophy rather than religion was pivotal to moving forward. A Conversation about Religious Trauma

In this inaugural episode, I speak with my good friend and trusted colleague, Curt Matzenbacher, a psychotherapist in northwest Arkansas, about adverse religious experiences and religious trauma. With vulnerability and hopefulness, we both share parts of our stories as survivors of religious trauma, as well as healing modalities and resources that have helped each of us make sense of our lived experiences inside and outside the religious traditions we grew up in. I’m so grateful for Curt and for this conversation. [Note: The thoughts and opinions expressed in this episode are solely those of the speakers and do not constitute medical advice.
