Lulla-Bio-Acoustics : Autumn Sunday Crackles

Lulla-Bio-Acoustic: Autumn Sunday Crackles Immerse yourself in the cosy rhythms of an autumn afternoon with the latest Lulla-Bio-Acoustic episode, Autumn Sunday Crackles. Begin with the sounds of a woodland walk, where twigs snap, bracken crunches underfoot, leaves rustle, and birds sing, all mingling with the distant voices of families and dog walkers. But the journey doesn’t end there. Follow the soundscape home, where the ritual of building a fire unfolds - the crackle of kindling, the soft hiss of flames and a glass of wine is poured, adding warmth to the atmosphere. Recorded with binaural microphones, this episode layers geophony, biophony, and anthropophony with subtle ASMR details, minimal instrumentation/sound design, and only the gentlest hints of incidental speech. Slip on your headphones, let the soundscape enfold you, and unwind as you savour the simple beauty of an autumn Sunday.

episode B-A-K TRACK : DYING ICE artwork

B-A-K TRACK : DYING ICE

This is the first B-A-K TRACK show on the K-A-B ART + SOUND LISTENING POD, where artist Kelly Ann Buckley takes the opportunity to share her own work with the audience. This featured piece is titled Dying Ice and is part 3 of a 5-part audio-visual commission called Echoes In The Fossils, created for Focal Point Gallery in Southend-on-Sea, Essex, UK. Echoes in the Fossils explores the concept of lost soundscapes, from the Mesolithic heartland of Europe—now known as Doggerland—lost to the North Sea around 8,000 years ago, to imagined futures in 'After the Anthropocene' in Part 5. Part 3: Dying Ice experiments with the sound of disappearing glaciers, transforming the frequencies of melting ice into musical notes. It captures the sounds of ice chunks falling into the water below, both naturally and through accelerated processes where the ice was set alight, struck, and manipulated to evoke the impact of climate change. The underscore track is titled Forgotten Voyages by K-A-B off her Beyond Land and Sea and Sky album available on all major streaming platforms.  Find out more about Echoes in the Fossils at K-A-B.NET > Portfolio.

K-A-B ART + SOUND : LISTENING POD - THE FIRST GUEST ARTISTS EPISODE

In this very first guest program host Kelly Ann Buckley (K-A-B) is thrilled to showcase pieces of work from two very special artists, Dr Mike Edwards of Sound-Matters (an organisation he co-founded with Harry Coade) and also from Alex Braidwood, aka Listening Instruments, aka President of the World Listening Project, among many other credits.  In an age of short attention spans, scrolling, rushing and disposable sound, the Listening Pod aims to celebrate the value of all kinds of sound work and sound art.  The works of these guests really does epitomise that goal!  The music which underscores Kelly's introduction is called Beauty of Decay, off her latest album A Sonotapestry of Tales, by K-A-B on all major streaming platforms.  Find our guests at sound-matters.com and https://alexbraidwood.com/ [https://alexbraidwood.com/].   More about the artist K-A-B can be found at k-a-b.net.

episode LULLA-BIO-ACOUSTICS : ESTUARY SOUNDSCAPES 1 artwork

LULLA-BIO-ACOUSTICS : ESTUARY SOUNDSCAPES 1

The first LULLA-BIO-ACOUSTICS session airs here as the first official programme from K-A-B ART + SOUND : LISTENING POD, to mark World Listening Day 2024. Hear the soundscape ecology of the area between an ancient tiny fishing town known as Old Leigh, and Chalkwell Beach, recorded on the morning of World Listening Day (18/07/24).   Via a continuous binaural recording you’ll hear sounds of early morning life as we walk through the old cobbled high street, which follow us onto a narrow but busy walkway flanked by a railway track taking commuters to London, and a rocky drop down to the beautiful estuary itself. As we progress closer to Chalkwell Beach, not far from the Crowstone where the Thames Estuary meets the North Sea, the sound of vehicles, trains, workers, joggers and dog walkers becomes less cacophonous, and the acoustics become peaceful and calm as we take in the lapping of the incoming tide, the sounds of birds, a bee, swimmers, bathers, and speedboats in the distance.  Towards the end of the soundscape, the aural journey shifts to underneath the water, where you will hear the result of a hydrophone bouncing and floating on the edge of the shore, clapping and scraping gently against pebbles and picking up the sound of the sand and salt as it washes back and forth within the tide.  The podcast starts and ends with the musical notes conducted by the biorhythms and frequencies of the sea, which I plugged into with electrodes and recorded there and then. Aside from wanting to encourage us all to still our busy minds, expand our attention spans and take out a bit of time to simply just tune in and mindfully listen, it is important to document soundscape ecology and the blend of biophony, geophony, and anthropophony, for understanding and managing ecosystem health, biodiversity, and the impacts of human activity on natural environments. The Listening Pod aims to air twice a month.  Please like, subscribe, download, follow and share so you don’t miss a show. Thank you for listening.  Kelly x
