Many Australians have gotten used to food couriers delivering meals straight to their door. Most of these workers are considered independent contractors, not employees, many are badly paid and last year, five drivers were killed in road accidents. While one company, Menulog, has told a Senate committee on job security it will start engaging some of its couriers as employees, the gig economy is also spreading to other sectors, including nursing.
