Episode 34: Generating Emotions on Purpose

Do you think that your emotions are based off circumstances, or can you actually control how you might feel in a given situation? In this episode, I discuss how I think we can choose how we feel in given situations, and how that plays out in our lives as moms and horsewomen. I also discuss how negative emotions like humility can have positive side effects and results that I like. I also discuss how to not shove other emotions down, but recognize them, before pressing into the emotion you want. I talk about how this idea is supported in scripture, in taking our thoughts captive and having self-control, and I go through some scripture that backs this up. Also! Episode 33: Passage of Time Meets Dreaming Ahead

By the time this episode goes live, it will be my birthday! And it's a milestone birthday, which is a neat opportunity to look back on all that has happened, and look ahead into all that could be. It feels a lot like a New Year celebration, when I reflect on the past year, and into the new one. In this episode, I talk about nostalgia and the brevity of life and how to handle those emotions, giving them their proper place, while also celebrating the amazing wonder moments in the past and all the Lord has done. I also talk about looking ahead into the future and dreaming, as well as encouragement not to use age as a limitation, but as a bonus towards future dreams! Episode 32: Happiness As Reward

Have you ever stopped to consider that encouragement leads to happiness, which affects not only our horsemanship and motherhood, but also our own wellbeing? For our horses, we reward them with showing by scratches, treats or pauses in training that what they are doing is right, and we are pleased with them. They seek our joy. Likewise, children seek our happiness and delight when we are happy with them. Encouragement builds up. But what if I told you that you and I operate on the same level? Episode 31: Perfection can be the Enemy of the Good

I don't know about you, but sometimes I like things to be perfect. Left unchecked, I believe that the house needs other be clean, the kids cheerful, things "just so" in order for me to be happy. But the reality is, circumstances don't make me happy. And if I'm always striving for perfection, I miss the wonder and good that is already going on around me. In this episode, I share some personal stories from the last few weeks about how I tried to push for perfection, and came to realize how good things already are, and resting in that, which has brought so much joy!
